Overview

Greg studies cellular signalling in disease and the identification of new drug targets.

Greg has established a research program with research funding via NHMRC, ARC, Queensland Cancer Council, Society of Biomolecular Screening, Department of Defense (USA) and other grants and collaboration with Pharmaceutical companies. His interests are signal transduction in disease, calcium transporters as drug targets and biomolecular screening. In 2006 he received a UQ Foundation research excellence award and in 2016 he received the UQ Research Higher Degree Supervision Excellence Award - video link. Greg has also recieved a Research Mentorship Award (HaBS, 2017) and an award for Excellence in Leadership (UQ, 2016).

Research Interests

  • calcium regulation in disease and cell signalling
Our current projects are focussed on the study of a variety of calcium transporters in disease for the identification of novel drug targets. PhD and Post-doctoral opportunities may be available, contact - gregm@uq.edu.au and see the "available projects" link.
  • High throughput calcium assays for biomolecular screening and cancer research
Our laboratory has the the first FLIPR-tetra system in Australia, allowing high throughput measurement of intracellular calcium in living cells.

Qualifications

  • PhD, The University of Sydney
  • Bachelor of Pharmacy (Honours), The University of Sydney
