Profile

Professor Darrell Crawford is a clinical academic Hepatologist with a strong international reputation in the field of liver disease.

He has held leadership positions within national and international professional societies relevant to his discipline and within The University of Queensland, including the Head, School of Medicine, and President Asian Pacific Association for Study of the Liver. He was honoured by election as a Foundation Fellow of the American Association for the Study of Liver Disease and received a Distinguished Service Award for service to the Gastroenterological Society of Australia. He has a strong research profile with > 200 publications and book chapters mostly related to disorders of iron metabolism including co-toxic injury with alcohol and fat, mechanisms and therapy of hepatic fibrosis, and treatment of chronic viral hepatitis.

He has played a key role in reshaping the medical program and medical faculty at The University of Queensland in his roles as Head of School, Acting Deputy Executive Dean and Head of the School of Clinical Medicine. He is committed to improving the quality of medical education, ensuring a contemporary curriculum enhancing the student experience and engaging with all staff who contribute to medical teaching at the University of Queensland.
