Overview

Nutrition and Dietetics Lecturer and Research Fellow.

Research Dietitian at Princess Alexandra Hospital, Brisbane working with the Metabolic Research Collaborative. Projects involve clinical research studies in chronic disease prevention and treatment. Role includes implementation of the Mediterranean diet in practice. Collaborating on project ‘the Role of Potassium in Sodium Handling and Blood Pressure’ with team of hypertension specialists.

Research Fellow at La Trobe University, Melbourne for the Australian Mediterranan diet (AUSMED) Heart Trial. Completed PhD on this trial investigating effect of Medtiterranean diet intervention for secondary prevention of coronary heart disease. Key outcome investigated include, diet pattern adherence, adiposity, inflammation and dietary inflammatory index.

Reserch Fellow for Project GRIT (Growth, Resilience, Insights, Thrive): a pilot single-arm intervention study to prevent childhood obesity; a collaboration between Weight Loss Solutions Australia and Bond University.

Coordinator of Bond Masters of Nutrition and Dietetics (BUND) Practice research project internships and chair of BUND Research team meetings.

Research Interests

  • Dietary patterns
    Including the Mediterranean diet and other evidence-based healthy dietary patterns, specifically for the prevention and management of chronic disease.
  • Inflammation
    Relationship with dietary intake, including the dietary inflammatory index and the role of inflammation in chronic disease.
  • Translation of research into practice
    Consideration of evidence-practice gaps in dietetics and how to translate the best practice guidelines and evidence based models of care into routine practice.
  • Cardiometabolic disease
    Mechanisms for the management and treatment or cardiovascular diseases, fatty liver disease and type 2 diabetes through lifestyle intervention
