Honorary Senior Fellow

UQ Gas & Energy Transition Research Centre
Faculty of Engineering, Architecture and Information Technology

Overview

Dr Mahshid Firouzi is an Honorary Senior Research Fellow at UQ's Centre for Natural Gas and a Senior Lecturer at the College of Engineeirng, Science and Environment at the University of Newcastle (Autsralia).

Dr Firouzi has a strong interest in fundamental and practical research collaborating with industry and different disciplines across a broad range of areas with a focus on Energy and Resources. Her research projects focus on experimental investigation and mathematical modelling of interfacial interactions in multiphase flows (foams/emulsions, bubble coalescence, thin liquid films) and process optimisation of engineering processes. She utilises advanced data analytics in process optimisation of engineering processes through timely diagnosis of system faults, resulting in minimising risk, downtime and cost of maintenance in different sectors. Recently she has been applying her skills in multiphase flow systems and process optimisation to decarbonization with the specific focus on production of CO2-free hydrogen from natural gas and plastic waste.

Her research achievements have been recognised through multiple awards including the 2018 UQ Engineering Faculty Early Career Researcher Award and being one of two Australian female scientists profiled by the Association of Academies and Societies of Sciences in Asia.
