Dr Liz Brogden is the Director of Teaching and Learning and Lecturer at the UQ School of Architecture, Design and Planning in Brisbane, Australia. She is an advocate for climate action in architecture, focusing on the central role of education in sustainability transitions both through university programs, and industry-based professional development. To help progress this, Liz leads Architecture Climate Futures, an Australian cross-institutional research collective engaged in collaborative climate literacy research.

She has 8 years of experience designing and implementing university modules focused on climate, resilience, and sustainability, in undergraduate through to Master's programs. These modules have been developed in architecture, as well as through transdisciplinary education that sits across multiple design disciplines. She has received two Vice Chancellor Awards at QUT for teaching excellence and was on the winning team for the overall 2021 QS Reimagine Education Global Education Award.

Liz currently sits on the Queensland Education Committee for the State Chapter of the Australian Institute of Architects. Previously, she was a member of the national Climate Action and Sustainability Taskforce (CAST) for the Institute, and the Climate Action and Sustainability Committee for its Queensland State Chapter.

Research Impacts

Liz leads a cross-university Climate Action and Literacy in Architecture Education project, jointly funded by the Association of Architecture Schools Australasia (AASA) and the Australian Institute of Architects. Liz is the recipient of a 2022 Churchill Fellowship, which will support current climate action from Australian architects by connecting with international initiatives and frameworks to build climate literacy across the profession.
