Masnun was born in a small town in Bangladesh which is situated in the Eastern Part of the country. She completed her B. SC(Hons) and Master’s in Chemistry from the Shahjalal University of Science and Technology, Sylhet, Bangladesh and joined as a Lecturer at the same department in 2014. After this, she was awarded the full package of the prestigious Forrest Research Foundation scholarship & Australian Government RTP Scholarship for the pursuit of her Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) at The University of Western Australia, which commenced in 2018. She completed her PhD in 2022 under the supervision of Professor Paul Low. Currently, she is working as a postdoctoral research fellow at the University of Queensland.

Research Interests

  • Copper complexes (catalysts) for atom transfer radical addition (ATRA)
    Metal-catalysed radical chemistry approaches via atom transfer radical addition (ATRA) have emerged as an excellent technique to solve long-standing organic synthetic challenges. Research here is focused on Copper catalysed ATRA reaction to develop novel organic compounds via bulk electrosynthesis. The mechanistic pathway and intermediate species involved in the catalytic cycles are also studied using cyclic voltammetry simulations, electron paramagnetic spectroscopy and spectroelectrochemical data.
  • Molecular electronics
    The overall goal of research is to design and synthesis of organic and organometallic complexes to study their electronic properties and establish their suitability for use as a molecular wire. The research is primarily concerned with molecular design, synthesis and characterisation using spectroscopic, spectroelectrochemical and computational methods. The projects work closely with collaboration to measure molecular conductance.
