Overview

Carlos joined UQ after a 2-year period as a Senior Teaching Fellow in water resources management at University College London Australia. Carlos completed a PhD in Hydrogeology in 2014 at Flinders University, as part of the National Centre for Groundwater Research and Training (NCGRT). Following that, Carlos completed a Graduate Certificate in Project Management at the Queensland University of Technology. Prior to that, Carlos obtained a BSc in Geology (2003) and a MSc in Environmental Geology (2008) from the University of Coimbra (Portugal). Carlos worked as a research assistant in hydrogeology for the University of Aveiro (Portugal) and the Portuguese Geological Survey in his early career.

Carlos and colleagues were awarded with the “Orlando Leitao” Prize for the best work presented to the Portuguese Society of Neurology in 2017, which was on interdisciplinary research on impacts of groundwater contamination in human health.

Carlos is a member of the International Association of Hydrogeologists.

Research Impacts

Carlos research interests include groundwater recharge, groundwater contamination and groundwater management. He's interested in groundwater interdisciplinary research on aspects such as effects on human health, social dimensions of groundwater management and groundwater economics. Carlos is also interested in the application of project management principles and tools to research projects.
