Research Interests

  • Medical Student Selection
I am a member of a collaborative group investigating widening participation in medical education by using a strengths-based approach to selection. Our current research is focused on supporting rural students.
  • Rethinking Mental Health Care
I am interested in the moral foundations of mental health policy based and in particular, developing policy that is based on affiliation with others. Much reform in mental health care has, quite rightly, focused on supporting independence and choice for people living with serious mental illness. However these approaches miss the importance of relationships with others. New approaches to policy are needed that encourage relatedness as well as independance.
  • Ethics Education
I am passionate about delivering high quality ethics education within medical programs. I believe that effective education can enrich the student experience and support students during their studies and as they move into their career as medical professionals. I have conducted evaluations of the integration of ethics into case-based learning sessions in the medical program at UQ. I am interested in integration of ethics and anatomy teaching.
