Sources, fate and exposure pathways for emerging persistent organic pollutants in Australia (2007–2010)

Abstract:
Polybrominated diphenyl ethers and perfluorinated chemicals are being considered for inclusion in the global treaty on persistent organic pollutants (POPs). These chemicals have been associated with a range of toxic effects. We have shown elevated levels of these emerging pollutants in Australians, particularly infants. Sources and exposure pathways remain unclear. In this collaboration a team from Uni. of Qld, 3 state EPAs, 3 leading laboratories for POPs and the US CDC aim to identify the specific sources, fate and exposure pathways of these emerging POPs in Australia. The outcomes will result in a risk assessment and provide essential information for effective risk management.'',
