Integrating Multiple Conservation Values For Protection And Restoration Of Native Vegetation (2006–2008)

Abstract:

Despite massive national funding, a major limitation on the effectiveness of protecting and restoring native vegetation is the difficulty of reconciling multiple conservation values. These are often addressed independently, under separate funding schemes, so multiple benefits only occur by chance. The basic research to enable us to integrate multiple benefits is lacking. We will develop an explicit, generic framework for collecting and analysing environmental data and making decisions about the multiple benefits of protecting and restoring vegetation. We will resolve uncertainties and controversies in the process and discover new techniques and insights that can be applied immediately for more effective management of native vegetation.
