Queensland sporting landscapes - a new historical analysis (2008–2009)

Abstract:
This project will generate new knowledge about Queensland sporting landscapes over time through an analysis of space and place. It will produce 'cutting edge' research that is recognised in an international context. The project will identify data relating to sport spaces in existing historical maps and other visual sources, isolate this data and interpret it to produce an authoritative 'map' of the Queensland sporting landscape at various time intervals over the last 150 years. This project will have longer term implications for the study and direction of sports history together with practical implications for the future planning and identification of sporting space and landscape environments.
