Predicting the recovery of composite mineral particles in froth flotation (ARC Discovery Project administered by the University of Newcastle) (2019–2022)
Abstract:
This proposal aims to provide a rigorous fundamental basis for a new method of predicting the recovery of
valuable minerals from ores, using the flotation process. The effect of cell hydrodynamics on the rate constants
will be investigated, using an innovative theory developed by CI Jameson. In parallel, CI Nguyen will use his
expertise with the most modern 3D X-ray microcomputed tomography analyser, to measure and interpret the
effects of surface liberation. The result will be a completely new way of modelling the behaviour of individual
flotation cells, and banks of cells in series. It will also provide a means of comparing the behaviour of flotation
devices, some of traditional design and others new to the industry.
