Unifying mechanisms of innate immunity signaling in animals and plants (2019–2023)

Abstract:
Innate immunity is the first line of defence against pathogens in diverse organisms. Recent results by the applicant suggest signalling by cooperative assembly formation and NAD+ cleavage are central to innate immunity signalling in animals and plants. This project aims to characterize the corresponding mechanisms at a molecular and protein structural level in both mammalian (Toll-like and interleukin-1 receptor and SARM-mediated signaling) and plant (effector-triggered immunity) systems. The project expects to provide a unified view on innate immunity signalling that will form the foundation for a range of applications in human biology and agriculture.
