How the SNARE:SM machinery regulates glucose transport in fat cells (2009–2013)

Abstract:
Diabetes, obesity and heart disease are escalating health problems worldwide. These conditions are all associated with insulin resistance that occurs when normal levels of insulin are insufficient to remove glucose from the blood. Our research will unravel the molecular steps involved in insulin-stimulated glucose transport and help us understand what goes wrong in insulin resistance. The long-term aim is to develop therapeutics to counteract these major health issues.
