Novel Graphitic Mesoporous Carbon Materials for Next Generation Carbon Catalyst Supports and Carbon Electrodes (2006–2008)

Abstract:
Activated carbon has high porosity but broad pore size distribution and poor electrical conductivity; while graphite has good electrical conductivity but its porosity is low and its surface is inert. The emergency of the novel graphitic mesoporous carbon, which combines a good electrical conductivity and a large accessible surface area, provides the opportunity to bring a new revolution to the application of carbon materials as catalyst support and electrode. This project aims to tailor novel graphitic mesoporous carbons (GMC) by templating technique for next-generation carbon catalyst supports and carbon electrodes.
