Micro Process Plants - Non-Newtonian flow and particle synthesis in confined geometries (2005–2009)

Abstract:
New exciting avenues for tailoring novel biotechnology and nanotechnology products will result from the understanding of the flow behaviour of non-Newtonian fluids within micrometer to nanometer flow conduits. This project will develop integrated design protocols for microfluidic devices to maximise performance consumer acceptance product quality and output. It will lead to the development of robust continuous methods of delivering tailored functionalized monodisperse emulsions and nanoparticles and rapid extensional property measurement of biological fluids via lab-on-a-chip devices. It initiates collaborations between University of Queensland University of Melbourne and Massachusetts Institute of Technology (U.S.A)
