Integrable quantum systems: mathematical foundations for developing quantum science (2005–2007)

Abstract:
This project is devoted to formulating mathematical techniques in the field of integrable quantum systems which will facilitate studies into the behaviour of quantum dynamics quantum phase transitions energy transport and thermodynamics. The benefit of the proposed methodology is that it yields exact results giving a level of accuracy not available in alternative approaches invoking some form of approximation. Such precise theoretical results will be necessary to make future progress in application areas such as quantum computation and nanotechnology. This project will apply these techniques to enhance our knowledge of a wide range of quantum systems including spin ladders metallic nanograins and Bose-Einstein condensates.
