Antiparastic Agents to Safeguard Australian Livestock (2014–2017)

Abstract:
Multi-drug resistant parasitic infections represent a major threat to the health and welfare of Australian livestock, reducing farm productivity and viability, and damaging the economic welfare of rural communities and regional Australia. Left unchallenged this parasitic threat has the potential to go even further, and undermine national and international food security. This project will develop new and improved antiparasitic chemicals, to provide a safe and effective means to combat multi-drug resistant parasitic infections. The design of these chemicals is inspired by the natural defensive molecules found in Australia marine and microbial biodiversity.
