System to Synapse (2014–2016)

Abstract:
Multi-scale imaging techniques have revolutionised the biological sciences. This comprises imaging from the mesoscopic scale (~20um: MRI) to the micro scale (<1um: Optical Imaging). Along with the rapid pace of development in imaging at each of the scales, the continued success of discovery now hinges on our ability to develop techniques in which we can robustly correlate results from the scales. This will allow us to understand and characterise how changes as seen by micro imaging are manifest in macro imaging techniques. This holds great promise for the development of novel macro imaging contrast agents. In this project we will develop methods that allow the direct statistical correlation of micro features with macro based techniques.
