Estimation of non-additive genetic variance for complex traits using genome-wide SNP and sequence data (2013–2016)

Variation in complex traits due to gene-gene interactions may be important in evolution, agriculture and human health, yet the magnitude of non-additive genetic variation for complex traits is not known because estimates are biased and imprecise. Here we exploit a new experimental paradigm through the availability of genome-wide SNP and sequence data on large samples of conventionally unrelated individuals to estimate non-additive genetic variance of quantitative traits in outbred populations. The project will lead to a better understanding of the genetic architecture of complex trait variation, will inform strategies and experimental designs to map genes for such traits and will produce user-friendly software.
