Achieving Biodiversity Conservation and Ecosystem Service Delivery: the Role of Landscape Structure (2013–2015)

Abstract:
Understanding how both biodiversity and ecosystem services respond to landscape change is of major importance for developing conservation policy. However, very little attention has been paid to the critical issue of how the spatial structuring of whole landscapes modifies ecosystem service and biodiversity responses to landscape change. This severely limits our ability to develop general spatial models to predict responses of biodiversity and ecosystem services to conservation action. This project will address this issue by developing new methods to quantify the simultaneous responses of biodiversity and ecosystem services to landscape change and explicitly test how the spatial structuring of landscapes drives these responses.
