Transition to adulthood: The wellbeing of young women and men in Australia (2012–2016)

The transition from adolescence to full adulthood is more extended and complex than a generation ago. This project will examine the behaviours, aspirations, life transitions and emotional wellbeing of young women and men in contemporary Australian society, in the context of the social meanings of gender. The key aim is to identify modifiable factors associated with positive emotional wellbeing. The work, while embedded in existing national and international bodies of work, seeks to link individual psychology and broader structural factors, and to consider gender, in innovative ways. The outcomes of the project will help support young Australians during a life stage that lays the foundation for healthy adulthood.
