Growing a Sustainable New Molecular Resource (2012–2015)

Abstract:
To maintain and improve the quality of life offered by modern health-care requires an ongoing commitment to the development of new drugs, to improve and replace those that have become less effective, and to bring to the community safer treatments for an ever-wider array of important diseases. Irrespective of the specific medical need, biomedical research is critically dependent on access to diverse, high quality molecular libraries capable of inspiring the discovery process. This project will discover and develop new chemical reagents that will activate ¿silent¿ microbial secondary metabolism, providing access to a valuable new region of bioactive molecular space, rich in structural diversity and therapeutic potential.
