Optimising the design, construction and cost-effectiveness of screw auger piles in fine-grained cohesive soils (2011–2014)

Abstract:
Australia¿s huge ongoing infrastructure development has seen a boom in piled foundations to support buildings and other loadings. It is essential to achieve cost-effective piled foundations, and this has led to increasing use of screw auger piles in fine-grained cohesive soils. However, their increasing use has outstripped the understanding of their behaviour, which is needed to optimise their design, construction and effectiveness. The aim of the proposal is to improve this understanding through field, laboratory and numerical studies. The research will achieve the development of improved design and construction methods for screw auger piles in fine-grained cohesive soils.
