Ultra-high-performance liquid chromatography ion trap mass spectrometer to develop new capabilities in environmental and human toxicology (2011–2012)

Abstract:
Every year, hundreds of new chemicals are marketed for the control of pests, diseases and industrial applications. This expanding chemical portfolio is in stark imbalance with the ability to identify and quantify such substances in environmental or biological matrices, as analytical methods are lacking for many currently used pesticides. Such capability remains fundamental in assessing chemical release, environmental levels or human and wildlife exposure, in order to minimise associated risks. A state-of-the-art Ultra High Performance Liquid Chromatography Ion Trap Mass Spectrometer, dedicated for method development and research on environmental contaminants, will allow our team to advance research in environmental toxicology and chemistry.
