MRI Molecular Imaging Agents - From Fundamental Design to In Vivo Applications (2011–2015)

Abstract:
MRI imaging agents have been crucial for establishing MRI as a leading medical diagnostic tool. However, current imaging agents suffer from lack of sensitivity at high magnetic fields used in modern scanners. This project aims to investigate the relationship between structure and performance of imaging agents, and to use this knowledge to design novel, more effective molecules. The molecules will be tested in several animal models of disease, namely for ovarian cancer and Alzheimer's Disease. The scope of the project and close collaboration with leading synthetic and medical laboratories will ensure that a strong and ongoing research focus is created in Australia for this critical technology.
