The mirror system and the perception of actions (2011–2013)

Abstract:

The ability to convey meaning through non-verbal communication and to recognise and interpret the actions and gestures of others is fundamental to communication and social interaction. This research project aims to determine how the recognition of others' actions and gestures is processed in the brain, what critical brain areas are involved, and whether such processing requires selective attention or proceeds automatically when we observe hand actions or gestures of others. This research project will provide the crucial foundation for understanding the neural processes involved in the perception of observed actions and gestures.
