Employee wellbeing and productivity: The role of territoriality, conflict and emotions (2011–2013)

Abstract:
If not managed well, workplace territoriality and conflict can have negative consequences for individual employees and workteams. Yet managers lack guidelines to manage such negative behaviours in contemporary offices, despite ongoing heavy financial investment in office layout design. Working with a leading UK expert, we develop a model to explain how office layout and resulting workplace territoriality might be a boon or a bane for employees' wellbeing and productivity. We will test our model using innovative real-time data collection. Based on these results, we plan to develop a training package and test its effectiveness in improving individual and team outcomes.
