A Cultural Atlas of Australia: Mediated Spaces in Theatre, Film, and Literature (2011–2013)

Abstract:
This interdisciplinary project presents the first national survey of narrative space spanning Australian novels, films and plays. By drawing together critical perspectives from theatre, film and literary studies to examine locations in narrative fiction, the Cultural Atlas of Australia aims to expand understanding of the nation's land, history, and culture. It will take a novel geo-critical approach to investigating how particular regions are represented. The two major outcomes of this project will be (a) a co-authored scholarly book that interrogates location narratives across three mediums (b) an interactive map that will enable scholars, students, and citizens to visualise and explore the places and spaces of Australian creative culture.
