NHMRC Research Fellowship (SRF B): Structural biology of infection and immunity (2011–2015)

Abstract:

The central aim of my work in the next five years is to use structural information on proteins of medical relevance and their complexes, to better understand their functions and facilitate new therapeutic strategies. The focus will be on proteins involved in the processes of infection and immunity. The research plan will build on the past research of our group, but focus on areas of increased medical relevance. The research will focus on three main areas: (1) structure and function of proteins involved in bacterial pathogenesis; (2) structure and function of proteins involved in Toll-like receptor signalling pathways, and (3) the development of bioinformatic tools for analysis of protein-protein interactions that harness structural information. These three areas will complement each other and the research will take advantage of the synergies between.
