Advanced computer simulations of star cluster evolution (2010–2014)

Abstract:
This Future Fellowship will advance dynamical simulations of globular star clusters to measure the evolution of the stellar mass function and binary fraction due to mass segregation, encounters between stars and the preferential loss of low-mass stars. This will produce the first consistent model of the formation of globular clusters based on their observed present-day properties. I will also measure the amount of gravitational waves and X-ray radiation coming from star clusters to make predictions for upcoming large-scale observational surveys. The research will be done on a new type of supercomputer using high-end graphic cards, which are potentially useful for a wide variety of research fields, including industrial applications.'',
