Medical traumatic stress in children and their parents following paediatric intensive care unit (PICU) admission (2008–2009)

Abstract:
Admission to paediatric intensive care (PICU) means that children are gravely ill. Impovement in care has meant better survival, however the experience of ICU can be traumatic for children and parents. We will investigate the impact of PICU on psychological and quality of life outcomes. We need to know how the experiences of PICU predicts traumatic stress symptoms, and how these symptoms relate to recover and function. We need to understand the process in order to reduce its future likelihood.
